GENESIS-SCI
                                        PHYSICAL CHILD ENCOUNTER COURSE
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course purpose
This course sets out to teach the student how to stop a single aggressor in a low intensity physical
incident
by disrupting his desire to engage. This is accomplished by attacking the nervous systems
extreme pain threshold points that override both the conscious and sub-conscious will to attack, as well as
disrupts the attacker’s control of aggressive physical motor skills. This course emphasizes attacking the
nervous system rather than teaching the student to engage in more forceful and damaging techniques.

Course Preparation
This course sets out first to teach the defending child to properly protect himself, and then aims to teach
the child how to avoid injuring the attacking child, thus averting the potential for parental conflict and
serious medical concerns.

This course is designed and taught to take into consideration that most child conflicts are not life
threatening, it’s about power and showing off, it’s about control. The course teaches the child how to
quickly disengage the situation and disrupt the will to engage by the other youth, fighting is not promoted
because it is not effective, and is counter productive to the protective effort. Parents need never worry that
their child might get in a fight and seriously hurt another child, with the skills taught in this course the child
can vigorously defend himself in any physical situation, inflict intense pain without having to injure the other
child involved. This course teaches real defense, for a real world, with real expectations that a child can
achieve and deliver effectively every time, with out the stigma of injuring another.

This course teaches the student to defend himself without having to resort to traditional full force
techniques, there is away to keep low level physical contact from blooming into full out violence. The
techniques in this course are designed to cause irritant pain, joint and nerve control sufficient enough to
stop all child conflict incidents. With a strange adult your child must do what he can to defend himself and
severe force is justified. With other children there is no need for such force. Save yourself and your child
the heartache and regret of resorting to brutal force over something simple, and let them learn and apply
defensive force that is both measured and appropriate for the situation.

Course perspective
All skill sets, movements and strategies are presented and practiced from the perspective of a child being
physically engaged with another child. Most normal child engagement objectives are not the same as those
of adults, and this courses view of training reflects those differences. This course is ideal for preventing low
intensity conflicts from escalating into full out of control youth brawls that could lead to serious injury.

This is a proactive course that consists of comprehensive  instruction, and realistic practical application of
skills learned, so the student will know when to use a technique, why to use, how to use, and the effects it
should produce.

THE CHILD CONFRONTATION
The Nature of Child Confrontation
Nearly all of the physical confrontations that a child or younger teen might encounter will be involved with
either a child they know or a child that is constantly in their environment such as day camp or school.
Further more most of these situations will be minor confrontations, and not live threatening.

Most all child and youth physical encounters will be in the "Low Intensity Encounter" range. A Low
Intensity Encounter, is a physical altercation that has peaked at the pushing, shoving and perhaps the
slapping phase, if left unchecked this conflict could escalate into a more violent physical exchange where
severe injury could occur to one or both individuals involved.

The Reality of Conventional Defense Training For Children
I am a big fan of conventional martial arts training, I believe that it has an enormous amount of positives for
youth. Traditional martial arts teaches discipline, respect, confidence, and offers great physical activity.
From Genesis point of view traditional martial arts training for children is much like youth soccer, peewee
football, and little league baseball.

Traditional training falters in two key areas; first the methodology of its training, and the attitudes of its
training gears the child for fighting which Genesis defines as a mutual agreement of combat between two
aggressors (Not an aggressor and defender) engaging each other with a blow for blow strategy as if they
were in a boxing or wrestling match with no regard for disengagement. This form of defense is both insane
and foolish, and is always a 50-50 win proposition with the advantage almost always leaning towards the
bigger or stronger combatant. Sure martial arts schools emphasis not getting into and avoiding fights, but
their training methods ensure that once the child is drawn into an engagement, they will attempt to resolve
the incident by fighting.  Genesis' answer to any encounter is to get in and out quickly with the most
minimum exchange of blows while avoiding, boxing or wrestling gestures.

Second, most traditional martial arts training for children (and perhaps some adults as well) is unrealistic
from the stand point of the child having to defend himself on the real streets, against real anger, where a
bully or aggressor may not be so inclined to follow tournament rules, or initiate attacks that nicely fall
within the techniques taught in the school. Many schools are teaching techniques that will simply not work
on the streets, and are better suited for tournaments and sport competition.

UNDERSTANDING FORCE
The Nature of Force
From the earliest ages we are taught and told by friends and relatives that we must defend ourselves,
naturally the translation is “Fight”.  The problem is that we naturally approach all confrontations from the
same prospective that being the use of full force, destroy the opponent, we treat family and friends like the
stranger in the bar. Such results are understandable if we were confronted with an assault by a criminal
assailant, or an enraged stranger.

The issue of force is even more blurred when it comes to engagements between children and young teens,
under most circumstances do you thing is it necessary or right for a child to batter their school mate's face
in, over a simple but heated argument? No! The truth is you don’t want your child to break another child's
nose because she used their pencil, you don’t want your child to swell their friend's eye because they
teased and shoved them, and you don’t want your child to do any harm when there most likely is not a
need to do so. Of course at the time of the altercation launching repeated blows to subdue an antagonist
might seem right for your child at the time as they are over taken by the moment, but once things calm
down you and your child may realize that the force used was excessive, perhaps to late to avoid medical
liabilities. In these low intense situations that have the potential to elevate, the objective is to inflict enough
direct pain to stop the person who has initiated low level assault, disrupt there will to continue and gain
control of their movement.

A Matter of Law
The law gives us the right to protect ourselves by means of physical force, even children have this self
preserving right; the law does not however give us or children the right to fight or use excessive force.
Some physical situations between adults require the use of deadly force, this is not the case with children,
while child engagements can  be very heated and the potential for injury is always present the need for
brute force is rare, not non existent, just rare.

No one ever considers the legal ramifications of fighting but there are many. Even in short altercations
where a few serious blows were thrown the attacker can be arrested for assault and even sued for medical
damages. Why? Because fighting is a mutual agreement and illegal and if excess force was used either to
attack or defend then there can be liability issues.

COST AND TIME BENEFIT
While most traditional training could take years to complete if your child even puts in more than a few
months, and could cost hundreds of dollars per year, Genesis training is fast, effective, and costs much less.

In a matter of hours conducted over a few short sessions, your child will learn how to deal with real street
encounters, and engagements initiated by other children. Your child will learn, discipline, confidence, and
respect, but only faster and less costly in time and money.

STUDENTS LEARN
I/ Low Intensity Skill Sets
The student will learn a number of core skill sets that will be the foundation of Movements that will be
taught later in the course.

II/ Low Intensity Movements
Low Intensity Movements are techniques designed to allow the student to defend against specific low
intensity attack formations. These movements are also designed to be implemented with the least amount
of energy exertion by the student. The movements covered in this course are designed to address the
following low intensity level engagements:

1/ Choke Engagement
The choke is often the dividing line between the low intensity conflict and the high intensity conflict. Once
an aggressor passes beyond this line and sustains the attack the victim enters circumstances where his life
is in danger. Thus the importance of containing an attack in the low intensity stage and resolving it there,
becomes clear, it is the difference between having to deliver lethal blows to defend oneself or using non
lethal force to resolve the conflict. The objective of this movement is to provide the student with actionable
skills that will allow him to first defend against the attack and then apply techniques that will eliminate the
offenders desire and will to continue the confrontation without escalating the incident.

2/ Holding Engagement
The hold in the form of bear hugs and arm locks accomplishes the same goal for the aggressor that being
to demonstrate control or dominance over the defender, and though it is not the most vulnerable position,
it is the most helpless because it places the defender in a submissive role with the inability to further defend
oneself. Such submission could lead to an escalation in the mind of the aggressor due to the influence of
power or more likely could result in unattended injury to the defender, beyond the intent of the aggressor
or joker. The objective of this, movement is to provide the student with actionable skills that will allow him
to first free himself from the confining hold, then  eliminate the offenders desire and will to continue the
confrontation.

3/ Grabbing Engagement
The aggressive grab regardless of whether a body part is grabbed, the clothing of the defender, or their
hair, is one of the most common initiating attack forms. From the grab the aggressor can then initiate to
more serious attack positions. The grab is commonly used to keep you engaged in the conflict and to
allow the aggressor to control the situation. To allow oneself to be held places the defender at a great
disadvantage, and strengthens the attackers feelings of power and control. The objective of this movement
is to provide the student with actionable skills that will allow him to first initiate a clear and quick release
and then apply techniques that will eliminate the offenders desire and will to continue the confrontation.

4/ Hitting Engagement
The hitting in any of its many forms be it a fisted punch, a slap, or poke is the most common and
recognized form of attack none to man, with the kick a decent second. These actions can be used to
antagonize the defender but if not guarded could result in the defender replying with severe or excessive
force that could result in an escalation of the incident to a violent level that can be resolved only through
the use of more lethal blows. The objective of this movement is to provide the student with actionable
skills that will allow him to first defend against the attack and then apply techniques that will eliminate the
offenders desire and will to continue the confrontation.

5/ Ground Engagement
One of the most vulnerable positions anyone can be in during an attack be it low intensity or high intensity
is being on the ground either because you tripped, or you were knocked or pulled down by your
aggressor. The psychological effect of your aggressor seeing you down and remaining down could
influence an escalation of the conflicts intensity from low to medium or even high. It is the down on the
ground position where the defender could sustain the most severe bodily harm. The objective of this
movement is to provide the student with actionable skills that will allow him to defend himself when he has
either fallen or has been knocked down to the ground during a low intensity attack.

III/ Understanding The Low Intensity Encounter
The student will learn the nature and characteristics of the Low Intensity Encounter, so they are able to sub
consciously identify it and instinctively apply force that is acceptable to the incident.

IV/ Action Drills
Here is where all the training will come together in live action drills where the student will be challenged
with various types of low intensity attacks by a single aggressor. These drills are at the heart of
conditioning and reinforcing the skill sets learned and at creating the sub conscious parameters and
reference points necessary to survive the incident. These drills will help the student to slow down the
action and see the aggressor, and also will help to work with the natural process of the adrenal output
process.
